Incentive Scheme
Gwynedd Council are running a trial voucher and starter pack scheme. Parents can apply for a £30 voucher towards the cost of washable nappies or a starter pack of washable nappies from specific local suppliers. For more details on the scheme ring 01286 679872 or e-mail recycling@gwynedd.gov.uk.
Real Nappy Friendly Hospitals
Dolgellau and Bangor hospitals are approved 'Real Nappy Friendly Hospitals' you will be able to use your own real nappies during your stay there if you have already bought your nappies, if not you can view a display pack of nappies which is kept on the ward for parents to see. The pack contains 1 Swaddlebees prefold nappy, 1 Bamboo Little Lamb nappy, 1 Real Easy nappy, 1 Minky pocket nappy, 1 Nature Babies waterproof wrap, 1 washable wipe and some printed nappy and fabric guides and contact details of a local real nappy supplier.
Credit Union Schemes
Real nappies will save you money in the long run but it is money up front, a great way of avoiding this up front cost is to borrow from your local credit union. They supply low cost loans for any purpose and it’s a great way of buying all the real nappies you need without breaking the bank. Loans are repaid weekly or monthly whatever suits you best.

To be eligible for a loan from the credit union you must live or work within the County Borough of Gwynedd or Anglesey. You must save for a minimum of 8 weeks; you will then be eligible to borrow twice the amount of money you have saved i.e. if you have saved £100 you can borrow up to £200. A typical loan of £200 paid back over 52 weeks will cost £4.10 including interest a week.
Free life insurance if provided with all loans.
There are several collection points in the Borough where you can pay your weekly or monthly payments.
